In addition to drawing, painting and illustrating, I also am a Rostered Teaching Artist, uniquely trained through the Central Minnesota Arts Board to work with teachers and administration to create Drawing Residencies that enhance academic subject areas with art experiences. These residencies will satisfy a variety of Minnesota Education Standards in both areas. Art itself provides unique educational opportunities for learning and growth, but paired with Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, and History, Residencies have the potential to reach a broad spectrum of students in even more meaningful and lasting ways.
If you would like to discuss ways in which such a program would bring these experiences to your school or classroom, please contact me for more information, or visit the Central Minnesota Arts Board site list of Rostered Teaching Artists and see my listing.
I have more than twenty years' experience, working with students in grades Pre-K through Seventh and have taught drawing in summer school in several districts, adults through Community Education classes, and individual students in private lessons.
In addition to classes in Art and Art Education at The Pennsylvania State University, I have also enriched my art education at the Minnesota River School of Fine Art, and the Atelier Lack Art School in Minneapolis. I was an Art Adventures Volunteer for three years, and the Coordinator for five years at Discovery Elementary School in Buffalo, MN. This is an outreach program of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, which brings valuable art experiences into classrooms through interaction with art pieces in the Institute's collection.
